I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Netflix just confirmed that Hemlock Grove will return for a third season and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. ?Season 1 was practically unwatchable, but season 2 is almost a complete turnaround. ?It’s still rather ridiculous and has its goofy soap opera-like moments, but overall, Hemlock Grove has become a highly entertaining guilty pleasure.
After Peter (Bill Skarsg?rd) and Roman (Landon Liboiron) outted the Vargulf in season 1, they’re stuck dealing with the repercussions of the attacks at the start of season 2.? Peter’s on the run with his mother and Roman’s reeling over Shelley (Madeleine Martin) and his Upir birthright.? Miranda Cates’ (Madeline Brewer) arrival does offer some solace, but this is Hemlock Grove we’re talking about.? Along with the announcement that Hemlock Grove will return for a 10-epsiode season 3 run, executive producer Eli Roth stated the following:
“We are so grateful to the fans of ‘Hemlock Grove’ who have championed the series so intensely over two seasons. ?We are looking forward to taking the last and final season into some dark and unexpected places, and to giving viewers the killer finale you’d come to expect from ‘Hemlock Grove.’”
Yes, you read that right. ?Season 3 will be Hemlock Grove’s last. ?After having such polar opposite experiences with the first two seasons, it’s tough to formulate an opinion on the decision to wrap the show up, but apparently the team behind Hemlock Grove is planning to make the most of the narrative and go big before closing out, so that's bound to be insane and fun.? Here’s what executive producer Chic Eglee had to say about it:
“We are delighted that our fans have invited us back to explore the fiendish recesses of the human condition for another season. ?Knowing it will be our last, gives us the opportunity to go out in a mushroom cloud of clever and soul shattering mayhem. ?See you soon on the twisted streets of Hemlock Grove.”
No spoilers here, but if you’re all caught up on Hemlock Grove, you know that the season 2 finale necessitates “soul shattering mayhem” to follow it up.
