‘Barbie’ (2023)
Rotten Tomatoes: 88% | IMDb: 6.8/10
This billion-dollar smash hit from Greta Gerwig takes the iconic Mattel doll and twists it into a story of hope for a future that breaks the archaic structure of patriarchy in modern society. Margot Robbie stars as Barbie, who suddenly becomes aware of her own mortality after a woman in the real world loses hope. Alongside Ken (Ryan Gosling), Barbie travels to human society to try and discover the truth. Brilliantly funny and pierced with a sharp and poignant message, Barbie is well worth the incredible hype. Also featuring one of the best soundtracks in recent years — highlighted by an Oscar-winning Billie Eilish number — Barbie is undoubtedly brilliant. - Jake Hodges
