Are you still down for a 'Mindhunter' Season 3?
It's been almost 6 years since Netflix released?Season 2, and there are?still?people (including me) waiting for?Mindhunter?Season 3, despite the streamer, the actors, and even creator David Fincher all either being silent or actively asking us to move on. I know it's hoping against hope at this point — it's likely dead. But this was not only a great series, it was one where we would be perfectly fine catching up with these characters 7, 10, 15, or more years down the line. Most of the characters are clearly FBI lifers, and even if, say, Anna Torv doesn't return, as long as Jonathan Groff, ideally Holt McCallany, and David Fincher sign up, we're good to go. After all, even though there have been fewer and fewer active serial killers in the U.S. over time thanks to a lot of factors, they've never gone away. You still down?
Gi-hun is going to become the Front Man in Squid Game Season 3
Season 2 ended on such a wild cliffhanger that I'm already dying for Season 3. My wildest theory is that Gi-hun is going to end up as the Front Man in the final season. I know — it's a bold prediction! But hear me out. Considering In-ho was a previous game victor, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Gi-hun felt he had to go back into the games to shut it down — maybe he realizes he needs to go on the other side of things to finally accomplish that goal, pretending to play along before switching up and killing the VIPs like a reverse In-ho. Or perhaps, because of all the trauma he's gone through and loss he's experienced, he gets jaded and embraces the darkness. It could be a fascinating arc for him. What do you think?
Squid Game 2 took one of the best parts from Netflix's The Challenge
Squid Game: The Challenge introduced the same cut-throat dynamics of the Netflix series but in a decidedly less lethal competition, and it was heartbreaking when they had to play the marble game for a key reason: it meant the mother/son team of Leanne and Trey would be split up and one would be sent home. Squid Game 2 utilizes that concept with new competitors to the game, Geum-ja and Yong-sik, a mother and son burdened by the latter's crippling debt. But while Trey and Leanne worked well in sync, the conflict between Yong-sik and his mother Geum-ja is one of the more fascinating parts on the new season. Yong-sik struggles with his participation in the games, effectively risking his mother's well-being (and his own) when he decides to continue the games. Even if it's just a coincidence, including this bit from The Challenge in Squid Game 2 has made for some entertaining drama among the players.
Ok, big one, what's your "Desert Island" TV show? I got mine right here!
Whether or not you've heard the BBC Radio4 show of the same name, you know the deal with "Desert Island Discs" — you're stuck on a deserted desert island with only a few bits of media to keep you company, possibly forever. Radio 4 is pretty generous, actually, allowing you multiple albums, books, movies, etc. to tide you over until rescue (or death). Let's get sharper — if you could only have?one?show to keep you company on a desert island, what would it be??Your options are unlimited, and no one will shame you for choosing?MILF Manor?because no one will be there. It's pretty rote, but I'm gonna go for?Game of Thrones. I'm even taking Season 8 with me! I will need some escapism and something to periodically yell at if I'm going to make it through. What about you?
Help me! I can't tell if 'Dune: Prophecy' earned a second season!
Well, that was a bumpy ride. Ups, downs, good performances, iffy scripting, interesting ideas, useless moments — the first season of 'Dune: Prophecy' had just enough interesting elements to make me appreciate it in part and enough drawbacks to make me question even finishing those 6 episodes. Like, it's interesting to start thinking about a Season 2, with its power to reset some of those plot lines, refresh the uneven tone, and turn this back-and-forth quality into something fun with some of its best actors. But did it?earn?that second season, or was all this setup for more just a hollow move for more big-ticket fantasy/sci-fi content — something HBO needs right now? Man, I can't tell. So on the fence here. Push me onto one side or another!
Where's Surprising Casting Choice Eventually Won You Over? ?
It's clear by now that fans often have very strong opinions on the casting of projects that are dear to them. While several controversial picks have led to disappointment, many surprising casting choices turn out great and end up winning fans over. Notable examples include Henry Cavill as Geralt in The Witcher, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Daniel Craig as James Bond, Michael Keaton as Batman, Robert Pattinson as Batman, and Ben Affleck as, well, Batman. Thinking back, which unexpected casting choice would you say eventually won you over?
Seriously, Arcane? That's It for Season 2?
Like many others, I was very excited for the return of Arcane, and although I was sad we were only getting two seasons of the show, Fortiche assured the people that we'd get more spin-offs. Unfortunately, it feels like the studio might be looking too far in the future and not focusing enough on the present. As Arcane approached its final three episodes, I certainly never felt like everything was leading to what we got in Episodes 6-9. After so many episodes talking about the struggle of the have and have-nots in Piltover and Zaun, the main crux of the conflict of Arcane?felt shoved aside to make room for... a Noxian invasion? Don't get me wrong, I love Ambessa, she's one of the best characters of the series. But does that mean the story makes sense? The season started off showing us that the city has never been more divided. Zaunites are suffering under the bootheel of Piltover after Jinx's attack, and the gap between the two halfs of the city is widening. The second arc of the season
What's Your Favorite Seasonal Re-Watch?
As the days get shorter and the nights of binge-watching get longer, which show or movie are you most looking forward to re-watching this holiday season? I personally can't wait to enjoy Netflix's 'Dash & Lily.' What's your favorite festive flick?
What true crime show are you watching on Netflix?
The recent premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story proves that Netflix remains the undisputed home of true crime stories. What show or documentary in the subgenre have you been binge-watching lately? I've recently just discovered Lover, Stalker, Killer and am thinking of diving into The Family and The Staircase soon.
‘Deadpool’ Needs Its Own Disney+ Series, Pronto
Without a doubt, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ provided a much-needed jolt to an MCU that was basically suffocating under the weight of mediocre films and shows, as well as severe fan-fatigue. That blockbuster was the shot in the arm Marvel (and, to an extent, Disney) desperately needed, and to keep this train going, a weird thought came into my head: Why don’t Disney+ create a series just for our favorite R-rated superhero? I mean, what is there to lose right now? Phase 5 was looking disastrous until 'Deadpool & Wolverine' came along to salvage it, and the Disney+ MCU series (with the exception of 'WondaVision' and 'Loki') have been mediocre, at best. In fact, it is within this area where the MCU needs the most help, and with Deadpool being one of Marvel’s more profitable superheroes, it makes perfect sense to finally develop a series that will almost certainly bring in a wave of viewers. As much as Disney would probably loathe at the idea of a TV-14 MCU series, the timing for one could not
Who Is the Best Sensei in 'Cobra Kai'?
Cobra Kai has officially entered its sixth and final season. We've seen several sensei, mainly Johnny Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso, Chozen, John Kreese, Terry Silver, and Kim Da-Eun. The question is, who do you think gets the most from their students? I'd say Johnny, for all his faults, has guided his kids to become elite fighters, but what do you think? Who would you want as your karate master?
Which streaming service has the worst release schedule for TV shows?
Netflix effectively pioneered the binge method when it comes to dropping full seasons of TV shows and while there's something gratifying about watching a whole season of a show in one sitting, it likely also contributed to the shortening of TV seasons and the instant gratification began to feel like a chore. If you cared about a TV show and didn't want to be spoiled, bingeing became less of a fun activity and more of a burden. As more streaming services rose up aside Netflix, we began to see different models of release types. It wasn't just weekly or all at once, but often a hybrid. Prime Video found a sweet spot with an initial multi-episode release (normally three episodes) before switching to weekly. For shows like The Wheel of Time or The Boys that benefit from week-to-week discussion, this method seems to have success. But while Netflix still clings to it's binge drop style, it's broken up the shows into mini-seasons, forcing viewers to wait even longer. For instance, shows like S
Who is Joe Locke playing in ‘Agatha All Along’?
Everything right now is simply speculation, as Marvel — in classic secretive fashion — is being tight-lipped and only referring to him as “Teen,” but who do YOU think he’s playing? Could it be Billy Kaplan, aka Wanda’s son, aka Wiccan? Or maybe Agatha’s son from the comic books, Nicholas Scratch? Or maybe someone else entirely? Drop your theory below!
Do we honestly need Perfect Match?
As if we didn't have enough dating reality shows already for us to indulge in, we're now heading into Season 2 of Netflix's newest dating series, Perfect Match, which, upon first viewing, feels like a knock-off of the ever popular Love Island. With so many dating reality shows, one has to wonder: Do we, honestly, need Perfect Match? I don't think so, but I want to hear from you!
What's the best film on AppleTV+?
Ah, a question near and dear to my heart as I like the streaming service's interface but question its current lack of options. While it's better curated than some other streaming services I won't mention, it suffers in the options department. That said, the best film on AppleTV+ for me is the absurd, minimalist, and absolutely fun 'Mad Max: Fury Road' which stands at a healthy 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. For other moods there's 'The Last Autumn,' 'Wolfwalkers,' 'Unforgiven,' and 'Goodfellas.' Of course, that's all IMHO. You got any selects?
What horror movie should you watch on Netflix tonight?
An eternally good question with shifting answers based on what's on the streaming at any given point. You deserve a rec, though, and, for my money the horror movie you should watch on Netflix tonight is 'X' from Ti West and the first in his trilogy starring Mia Goth. It's fun, bloody, somewhat innovative given its old-feel slasher format, and genuinely stylish and scary. Seen it? What about 'The Ritual' or '1922' or anything else from our list. Anyone else got good reccos here?
What do you hope happens in The Night Agent Season 2?
Earlier this week we learned that The Night Agent's creator Shawn Ryan has signed a new deal with Netflix which means we're probably getting even more seasons of The Night Agent and maybe even spin-offs, but I'm curious to know what folks want to see happen in Season 2? Season 1 was one of the most exciting new series to drop on the streamer, and I'm anxiously waiting for the new season to drop. Personally, I'm hoping that we get more romance—I really loved Peter and Rose. Historically, the ships that come out of these types of stories are some of the best in TV history: think Bones, Castle, NCIS. But what are you hoping for?
Which Reality show do YOU want to be cast on?
Netflix just released how to get cast on Squid Game: The Challenge. Great for fans of that, but which show do YOU want to be on? Send me for a vacay on 'Below Decks" now!
Looks like it's time to rank live-action Disney+ Star Wars shows (again)
