It's Time to Give 'The Real World' It's Proper Respect (And Reboot)
When you watch documentaries on Reality TV, there is one show that is consistently left out when discussing the shows that brought the genre into the mainstream. I’m talking about, of course, MTV’s The Real World, a show that started out as a grand social experiment to see how seven strangers of different backgrounds live together under one roof, and, for a while, was one of the more popular shows on the network. In its early years, The Real World was an insightful look into how people from different ends of life’s spectrum can co-exist. While it dissolved into a show that thrived more on drama than insight toward its end, one can’t help but look at all the reality shows on today's TV landscape and not see The Real World's massive influence.?Seriously, would CBS's Big Brother even be a hit today if it wasn’t for The Real World? I think not, and it’s oftentimes ignored in the conversation of great reality shows when it really shouldn't. The truth of the matter is, this show deserves its
Why A-Listers Are Hosting Their Own Reality TV Shows
Whether it’s Food Network showing off Selena Gomez’s culinary skills on Selena + Chef, or Jessica Alba fixing up family homes for her HGTV show Honest Renovations, a new wave of A-list stars is turning to the world of reality TV. Hosting personalized shows offers mainstream celebrities the chance to do something new, engaging, and on their terms. And in most cases, these stars bring friends, family, and celebrity buddies to join in with the fun and games. All while showcasing authenticity and boosting their brands.
Sorry, but I’m Rooting for The First Era in The Challenge: Battle of the Eras
MTV's The Challenge is about to turn the big 40 (like me!), and it was more-than-appropriate that the iconic reality competition brought in the best from each of the series’ four eras to see which one reigned supreme. As much as I love the new-age of the Challenge, my allegiance is firmly with the first era. I grew up watching the old-school Challenge, back when it was just Road Rules (RIP) and The Real World (may you also RIP) battling out to see which show was the best (spoiler, it was almost always Road Rules). Some of The Challenge’s more iconic characters came out of these early years, some of whom represent Team First Era in this challenge. So, I have fond memories of those glorious early years, and I think this era was certainly the best. So, while I wish the other eras the best, I’ll scream this loud and proud: LET’S GO FIRST ERA!
Who has been your favorite America’s Got Talent contestant over the years?
‘America’s Got Talent’ has come a long way and with a show that lasts all summer long, we’re always in for a treat! But when it comes to some of our favorite contestants, one of them that has been the most memorable to me was Piff the Magic Dragon from Season 10. Piff (also known as John van der Put), mixes magic with comedy, all while performing in a dragon costume. What more could you want?? His deadpan humor and self-deprecating style combined with genuinely impressive magic tricks, created a refreshing and quirky act that really stood out. Accompanied by his adorable and the bestest little dog in the world, Mr. Piffles, Piff's performances were hilarious and mystifying. His unusual blend of comedy and magic and his distinctive persona made him one of the most entertaining contestants in AGT history. So, who’s on your list?
Will Jackie Goldschneider Be Left With Egg on Her Face?
'Real Housewives of New Jersey' star Jackie Goldschneider has been receiving mixed reviews for her seemingly surprise alliance with Teresa Giudice. The OG has viscerated Goldschneider since she joined the cast several seasons ago. Now, Goldschneider traded in her friendship with Giudice's estranged sister-in-law, Melissa Gorga, and Margaret Josephs, after calling a truce with Giudice. After Giudice was caught telling co-stars she didn't actually care about Goldschneider and is using her to expose Josephs, Goldschneider defended Giudice. Many fans now believe she's friends with Giudice because it's her tactic to stay on the show. How will this play out by Season 14's end?
Does 'The Real Housewives' franchise require more than a reboot?
In recent years the talk in Bravo world was when is the new ‘real housewives’ franchise hitting the airwaves? Las Vegas, New Orleans, even Scottsdale were being hinted as possible locations. All would later be dismissed as groundless rumors by Bravo kingpin Andy Cohen. Now the conversation has shifted to which franchise needs shaking up? Currently there are 8 franchises playing out in the US, So, if you had to add, take away or reboot one, what would you do?
Do we honestly need Perfect Match?
As if we didn't have enough dating reality shows already for us to indulge in, we're now heading into Season 2 of Netflix's newest dating series, Perfect Match, which, upon first viewing, feels like a knock-off of the ever popular Love Island. With so many dating reality shows, one has to wonder: Do we, honestly, need Perfect Match? I don't think so, but I want to hear from you!
Featuring a star-studded cast – including some major drama makers — who would you like to see forming alliances on The Traitors Season 3?
With the murder mystery game series basing its foundations on alliances to solve the mystery, several contestants would pair well to blend manipulative tactics and partnerships for survival and success. For starters, Tony Vlachos, Jeremy Collins, and Danielle Reyes could form a strong alliance based on their strategic gameplay experience from Survivor and Big Brother. As they would likely work well together to analyze clues and strategize effectively, there is also the possibility of under-the-radar alliances, like Dolores Catania and Lord Ivar Mountbatten simply for their neutral personas.
