Over two years after its announcement, the Mitford Sisters-inspired series Outrageous is finally getting a release window. On Thursday, December 5, BritBox released its 2025 slate of premieres and returning series that highlight the depth and power of British storytelling. Outrageous is one of those series and will premiere in the summer of 2025. While that is not an exact release date, it’s sure to keep fans' minds at ease while awaiting a date.

Based on the true story of the Mitford sisters, Outrageous chronicles a family saga about six scandalous sisters far ahead of their time. These ladies were the aristocratic daughters of the second Baron Redesdale and his wife, Sydney Bowles, who achieved fame and notoriety during the 1930s. The historical drama stars Bessie Carter (Bridgerton) as Nancy Mitford, the eldest Mitford sister, Joanna Vanderham (Crime) as Diana Mitford, Isobel Jesper Jones as Pamela Mitford, Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford, the youngest Mitford sister and Anna Chancellor (My Lady Jane) as Sydney Bowles, the girls’ mother.

Outrageous is created and written by Sarah Williams, who is among the similarly extraordinary writers added to BritBox’s recent announcement. While announcing its 2025 slate, the streaming service listed new series from top U.K. writers, including Sally Wainwright (Riot Women), Williams (Outrageous), Rachel Bennette (Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero), Catherine Moulton (Code of Silence), Kelly Jones (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story), Anna Symon (Joan), and Cat Jones (The Jetty).

Britbox Has More Treats Coming in 2025

Speaking of the series set to return with new installments in 2025, BritBox listed Blue Lights, Vera, Father Brown, Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise, Silent Witness, and Sister Boniface Mysteries. In addition, there will be reimagined looks at treasured literary characters in Lynley and Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero. Besides blessing fans with these pre-Christmas treats, Robert Schildhouse, President of BritBox North America and GM of BritBox International, expressed anticipation for fans to experience the streamer’s “most electrifying year yet.” He said:

Outrageous, produced by Firebird Pictures, will air in the summer of 2025.
