‘American Primeval’ (2025)

Written by Mark L. Smith and directed by Peter Berg, American Primeval is a period Western drama miniseries. Set in 1857, the show follows the story of a mother and son fleeing their past in the American West, where they form a found family while struggling to survive a harsh and violent landscape of freedom and cruelty. The series stars Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Kim Coates, Jai Courtney, Shea Whigham, Dane DeHaan, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, and more.

Berg’s first project under his first-look deal with Netflix, American Primeval was highly anticipated before its release on January 9, 2025. Though it follows a fictional story, the show is inspired by real events, specifically the Utah War. In this way, the series presents a rather gritty and realistic exploration of the conflict between the US Army, the Mormon Church, and the Shoshone, Southern Paiute, and Ute tribes, as told through the lens of personal struggles.

‘Missing You’ (2025)

Following the New Year’s Day 2024 success of Fool Me Once, Harlan Coben’s next team-up with Netflix comes exactly one year later, with Missing You releasing on January 1, 2025. The series, another adaptation of Coben’s novels, follows detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), whose professional and private lives are thrown into disarray after discovering her missing fiancé on a dating app. Brimming with twists and turns, Missing You is a favorite novel for many of Coben’s fans, with this adaptation feeling, to some, like a long time coming. 'Cunk on Earth' (2022)

Originally titled A Classic Spy, A Man on the Inside is interestingly based on a 2020 documentary called The Mole Agent, which earned an Oscar nomination. 'Ripley' (2024 - Present)

Steven Zaillian’s Ripley is a black-and-white period noir thriller that stars Andrew Scott as the titular grifter. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels, the eight-episode miniseries also stars Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn, Eliot Sumner, and more. A Manhattan industrialist hires New York conman Tom Ripley (Scott) to go to Italy and convince his son (Flynn) to come home, but once there, Tom begins a journey of deceit, fraud, and violence as he tries to claw his way to wealth and comfort. While the source material has previously been adapted, Zaillian’s Ripley is unlike anything that’s come before. That’s largely thanks to the performances of the lead cast, who present complex, grounded characters who are neither fully good nor bad. The biggest draw of the series, however, is its mindblowing cinematography, which shows a masterful command of light and shadow that elevates the show from a thriller series to high art.

‘Territory’ (2024)

Created by Ben Davies and Timothy Lee, Territory is an Australian neo-Western drama series that follows the Lawson family dynasty, who own the world’s largest livestock farm.
